This book is one of those stories that you remember for a long time. Based on facts and historical events, of horrors and brutality, of life and death, as a reader you feel that the events were part of your own life, because Lale and Gita feel like they could have been your family.
The author has documented Lale and Gita’s love story, with the unimaginable horrors of their daily lives at the concentration camps, but without overdramatising either. As readers, we are aware of the horrors, murders, brutality and the fear, the suffering and the daily struggle for survival, but we are taken on a journey of daily life, of friends, solidarity and of love and hope and above all courage. Once started it was hard to put the book down.
