The book was utterly beautiful. I loved how Morris wrote a love story in the midst of a brutal war. The fact that love can be found in such a place was amazing. Morris uses true facts and events that makes the story even more real and vivid. Even though the idea of finding love seemed unrealistic. However I felt the characterisation of both Gita and Lale was not developed fully. Their interactions between each other could have also became developed.
The foreword from the son was actually my favourite part of the story, which was effectively moving.
Overall I would recommend this book as a good historical fiction book, however it is not the best among the historical fiction genre. Morris had an amazing plot line, but was not effectively executed.
