When I realized this was a love story, I hesitated and didn't want to read it. I don't like love stories, neither do I like stories about the Holocaust. But I read it and enjoyed it more than I thought.

It plays in a concentration camp from 1942 to 1945. The protagonist is a Jew who meets a girl and immediately falls in love with her. As the title suggests, he's the tattooist of Auschwitz, which means he's in a rather good position, compared to most of the other prisoners. Since he told Heather Morris his story, he obviously survived but I won't spoiler what happened to the girl.

It's very easy to read and follow the plot. I like the fact that it's a true story and that there's additional info about the people involved and Heather's personal impressions at the back of the book. It surely presents a picture that's a bit more romantic than it probably was but the reader still gets a feeling for life as a prisoner in a concentration camp.

This book is worth reading, even if you're not a fan of love stories. It's not too emotional but still touching towards the end.
