I was always indifferent to history lessons at school but The Tattooist of Auschwitz brings this important event to life so well. The level of detail and clear abundant research that went into this masterpiece is astounding and truly honours its subjects. I think I experienced every emotion while reading it: sadness, anger, disgust, elation, love and relief to name but a few. From the first page I was hooked - Heather Morris builds up the character of Lale so well, half way through the book I felt as if I knew him myself, and found myself thinking about him during the day while I was at work. Morris's writing style flows stunningly and I just couldn't put the book down. A very welcome distraction during a pandemic, and a stark reminder that life could be so much worse right now! Lale and Gita's story is so beautiful. Everyone should read this book.
