This is an all absorbing emotional read which I couldn't put down until I finished. Even now that I've finished, it is still haunting me.

It is based on a true story told from Lale Sokolov's point of view, who was the given the job of 'Tatowierer' in Auschwitz, forced to brand millions of other victims. Yes this book is based in Auschwitz and certainly deals with the horrors that took place there but is also unlike any other in that Lale Sokolov is determined not just to survive but to live his life. It is a true story based in the most inhumane of places and yet in these dark times comes a story full of hope, courage, determination and even a love. Lale Sokolov falls in love with Gita, who at first appears to of given up on any form of life outside of her confinement. Lale will not give up on his love and is determined to have a life with Gita outside of Auschwitz.

This story is powerful, uplifting, emotional and informative a must read. I can not recommend this book enough. It is by far the best book I've read in a while and will stay with me forever.
