This packs quite the emotional punch and required a lot of time sitting in my room pondering my thoughts after I finished reading it. I think the fact that it is a true story must make it even more hard-hitting as you have such a vivid mental picture of a real person and real events. I'm not usually much of a war fiction reader, but this one is just incredible. I always find books like this quite hard to review because they aren't books you necessarily can say that you 'enjoyed' given the subject matter, but rather respect.

Lale is quite the admirable character to read and one that you could never tire of doing so, despite the hellish things that he must go through. To me, Heather Morris really did him justice writing him in such a way.

The only other thing I can say is that I know there is some controversy surrounding this book, although I can't remember the details, so it is something I'd have to look into more if I was recommending it to someone and not everyone appreciates what can be seen as sensationalising such tragic events.
