i really enjoyed this book. i had been wanting to it for some time and got it as a present. i was delighted to read the book and i certainly was not disappointed. the characters and the writing were very good and kept me hooked. i particularly liked cilka and wanted to know more about her story so i am excited to read the sequel about her.
i recommended this book to a few other people and they also loved it!
The book tells the story of how Slovakian Jew Lale Sokolov, who was imprisoned at Auschwitz in 1942, fell in love with a girl he was tattooing at the concentration camp. The story is based on the real lives of Sokolov and his wife, Gita Furman.

the book is very effective and really makes you feel - hurting your heart. although the book lacks some physical description- i felt the author was sometimes vague about certain processes, it is effective still as it conveys the unspeakable horrors of the concentration camp but also portrays the unique hope of love.
