I honestly felt unsure on how to rate this book.
I felt as though it was not well written as throughout it seems to state facts, just say things like Lale did this. Two weeks later this happened.
I felt as though there was no connection to the story.

That being said I did enjoy the story. When I was almost 3/4 of the way through I started feeling for our characters. For Lale and Gita. I cared about the friends they had and had lost. I cared about their relationship and rooted for them. When Nadiya was taken to her death I cried. When Gita escaped and when Lale was given work in a nice place I was thrilled. I loved his relationship with Leon and cried when I discovered what happened to him.

The trouble is, getting 3/4 of the way through without being made to care for these characters is not good. I enjoyed the story. I think it was an important one to be told but I think it was not the best written and that made me a bit resentful of the story. It feels like going through a bad story to get a good ending.

It's a good book.... Eventually. Its up to you as to whether you see it through to the end.
