The Tattooist of Auschwitz is a powerful, impactful book. It concerns real-life events that are truly harrowing to read about, and are so important for us to be aware about so that we can stop such atrocities from ever happening again.

Holocaust books make me feel incredibly gloomy (understandably), but in the Tattooist of Auschwitz, Heather Morris weaves a tale not only of sadness but also of hope. Lale and Gita Sokolov are wonderful characters to read about, and I particularly enjoyed Lale's style of narration - specifically, his own personal viewpoint on events in the novel. It was incredibly interesting to see how he used job as a tattooist to fight for the longevity of other prisoners.

All in all, an illuminating read, though it is a bit heavy so you have to be in the right mindset to read it.
