The story of a man in Birkenhau called Lale who is given the position of tattooist .He meets a woman Gita and falls in love . He also trades with the village people doing the construction of the crematoria to provide extra food to his fellow prisoners .
The story was heartbreaking at times but full of love between Gita and Lale . It really brought it home how cruel the prisons were and how hard it was to survive . I feel it should be a book that all young people read so the survivors stories and the stories of those who perished are not forgotten .
