I read this book about a year ago but it was so intensely beautiful that I have reread it many times to this day. It follows the real life story of the man who worked as a tattooist at Auschwitz, Lale Sokolov. This story follows Lale falling in love with a girl he tattoos while entering Auschwitz, Gita, and is absolutely heartbreaking. The backdrop of the brutality of the concentration camps shows how hope and love can persevere even throughout the worst of times. In The Tattooist of Auschwitz, Heather Morris really showcases the very best and the very worst of mankind. The story of Lale and Gita is one of courage, bravery and love against the odds. There is also a spin off of sorts called Cilka’s Journey which I also highly recommend as Cilka is such a compelling character in The Tattooist of Auschwitz. Overall, I highly recommend this book to all lovers of biographies and historical fiction.
