I decided to read this book due to the amazing reviews that it was getting, some personal recommendations and my love of all things to do with history.
This is a gripping and heartbreaking story of falling in love despite the torturous conditions in which the characters live.
I found that it took me a while to get into this book however, once I did, I was gripped and couldn’t put it down! I wanted to continue to follow the characters’ story. In places the novel is very difficult even disturbing to read due to the historical context in which it is set- it is unimaginable to think what people like the protagonist went through at this point in history. Overall, a very well written novel which flows nicely and I would definitely recommend this to others, particularly those who like to read about history/ historical events.
I would definitely give this 4 stars!!
