The first book I read about the Holocaust was "The boy in the striped pajamas". It drew me into reading this book as I was curious to read about the survivors' recollection of their time in concentration camps. The tattooist of Auschwitz did just that. It illustrates the sufferings, the terror, and how the survivors find their escape out of the camps. At this moment, it makes me appreciate the peaceful and comfortable life I am living, growing up with no discrimination of race or religion. A place where you are not killed for something you cannot even control (your birth). The story hooked me in as Lale and Gita faced several near-death events and makes you worry about their lives, though we know they survived to tell this tale. This courageous story carries a deeper message of the power of HOPE and to never let history repeats itself. I carried the same HOPE that they will survive and I came to the end of the book without realizing it. I was really engrossed and it was an impressive read! While there are reviews against the way the book was written, I personally feel that having a fictional approach rather than a autobiography was a good idea. The story was conveyed through emotions and thoughts, and it was easy to read and thus enjoyable!
