I flew through Lale's story in less than a day, and I am emotional.

Obviously everyone knows the Holocaust and Auschwitz and really no words can describe the atrocities that Nazi Germany inflicted on so many, SO, SO many innocent people, but this book really showed just how callous and normalized the cruelty of Nazi soldiers was in concentration camps at this time, with prisoners being shot simply because the soldier walked past them.

I thought the writing style of this book was phenomenal and even though the subject matter made the book hard to read in places, the writing kept me hooked and I couldn't put it down.

I did feel though that there were a few points in the afterword by the author, talking about other things the real Lale had told her in their time together, would have been better woven into the story itself, they were small things that didn't make the book any worse for not having them, but I feel would've made a more emotional impact within the story
