I wasn't sure that I would enjoy The Tattooist of Auschwitz, due to its content, but I just couldn't put it down.

From looking at the cover, you know exactly what this book is about. What I found surprising was the fact that the tattooist was a prisoner and not, as I had expected, one of the guards. Whilst harrowing in places, the book tells the (true) love story of Lale and Gita, interspersed with the atrocities of being confined in a concentration camp. I liked the style of writing, although it's not over-descriptive or sentimental, and very much to the point. It's hard to read in places, but uplifting in others. I learned a lot about life at Auschwitz, but I wish the book had been a little longer, and that the ending hadn't been quite so rushed. A very good read, nevertheless.
