The tattooist of Auschwitz is undoubtedly one of the hardest reads I've ever had. Knowing it was based on a true story made it all the more compelling and gripping.

The Tattooist of Auschwitz focuses on the real experiences of Lale Solokov, a Slovakian Jew and his time at Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp where he was made to tattoo other prisoners being held at the same camp. The novel focuses on both the horrific incidents in which Lale was a witness to but also documents the unbelievable acts of bravery from fellow prisoners and the ways in which they fought to protect one another.

This is a book about survival, the risks that Lale would go to in order to keep his fellow prisoners alive and his sheer determination to not give up.

This novel was utterly harrowing and un-put-downable, I couldn't recommend this enough.
