This compelling story of life inside Auschwitz gives a new perspective on survival in the Holocaust. This is a gripping read which charters love, hope and a sense of community prevailing through absolute darkness.

It is an accessible read for those wanting to learn more about the Holocaust or read a deep, moving human story, I would recommend it to anyone.

I really enjoyed reading about what happed after they survived Auschwitz and their life together. Furthermore, reading about the authors journey while collating this story and the way and the places it was researched was a really interesting touch and emphasised that this amazing story is based on the real lives of Lale and Gita.

‘If you wake up in the morning, it is a good day’ is one of numerous lines that stay with me after reading this book. I am also thinking of the numerous untold stories of that period.
