I wouldn’t normally read books about war-time but I picked this up out of curiosity and was not disappointed. A wonderful book portraying the story of Lale and his family experience as a Jewish family during WWII. It tells the story of him becoming the trusted tattooist, getting the guards on side so that he could do deals to get extra food for the friends he makes. How he was caught with jewels he was trading through to meeting Gita at Auschwitz where they fell in love and marry after the war. It gives you an insight to how they each managed to survive despite Gita becoming seriously ill. I would definitely recommend you read it. There’s a separate book about Silka telling her story which I have yet to read.
