This book is incredible, the way it is written meant that it was impossible to put down and the story became embedded in my thoughts. The years the author put in to researching the story and the facts are clear and are what make the emotion so compelling.
The story follows different lives of people all destined to the same fate and perhaps how a different outlook and hope can effect every day. The main character, Lale, takes us on a journey throughout a period of time at Auschwitz and how making decisions to protect yourself and your family can alter your situation. A story of hope and love, and sheer survival, in a horrible situation made me think about the Holocaust as so much more than a number of people who went through a horrific experience, it brings the Holocaust and living in horror to life.
