This has to be the best depiction of the holocaust I have ever read. I was at first a little unsure of the narrative but after a short while I realised that having Lale’s story read from the perspective of the author was only added to the gravity of the story. I think that Heather (the author) has done an incredible job of not only piecing together the fractures of story but not overdramatising them - this book feels like such a true reflection on this incredible mans life. I feel so honoured to have read this story and I’m honestly struggling to find the right words to describe how important this is. I feel this story will always have a place in my heart. I’ll unashamedly admit I shed a tear and wholeheartedly recommend this book to everyone I meet.
