This book, with its harsh reality and it's heartbreaking story of a survivor, is absolutely brilliant.

The tale of Lale and Gita Sokolov is told through extracts of Lale's recounting, and pieced together in a way that's heartbreaking to read. To learn what happened in those camps, even in words, is so upsetting and painful. Imagining their pain is oh so much worse.

When the epilogue tells us what happened to the rest of the people we learn about, it's horrible. The fact that Cilka went through what she did and was then arrested for something she had no control over is so disgusting.

The book was very well written and the way it was set out made it worth the read, and very informative. It gives an account of what happened, from the mouth of a man who survived it.

The cover was also very fitting, quite plain and simple, but in a way that catches your eye and dares you to read it.
