The plot in this is inspired by a true story, which is not only heart-wrenching but as beautiful as they come. The 2 main characters Lale and Gita share a connection right from the beginning and it is unmissable. It’s beautifully written, made to make you feel everything they feel. It’s also a quick and easy read, nothing over the top and unnecessary. A must-read if you want to feel first-hand what it would be like to find love in the Holocaust. Plenty of romance, of course, and also a story about friendship and selflessness.
Lale has strong morals and Gita is an equally strong female character. I cannot recommend this enough to fans of historical romance, it made me smile and cry and made my heart ache. The author has clearly done her research in order to make sure that the truth of Lale and Goya’s story remains true. Loved this book so much.
