Following the story of Lale and his imprisonment at Auschwitz where he found love with Gita, this is a poignant tale that I’m glad has been recorded on paper to ensure we all remember what people went through in WW2.
I loved this book but there were points where I felt ‘that just wouldn’t have happened like that’, but as soon as you realise I a true story it adds a whole new layer of depth to the story. In fact, this is what made it for me...
I had a copy of the book that had photos of the couple through the ages of their relationship and it brought a tear to my eye to know they made it through this together. That in such atrocity love can still find a way.
The book was a page turner and the story flowed easily - one that is easy to pick up but hard to put down.
