This was a tough read, but I couldn't put it down. Both horrific and life affirming at the same time. I took comfort in that I knew he and Gita survived but my goodness they suffered. This is a book that we should all read, these people should never be forgotten. I did love though that it was written as a novel and enjoyed getting swept up in the story. I thought I was doing really well not to cry near the end, but when the station master gives Lale a coffee and a sandwich I lost it! I enjoyed the fact that we got to know more of his and Gita's story after Auschwitz.
Not as well written as Victor Frankl's Man's Search for Meaning but shares the same sentiments in that just wanting to survive is heroism.
