So I got this book as a birthday gift, at first I jumped to the assumption it was going to be like reading a book about the general life in Auschwitz and the horrors that took place there,which I already had some knowledge about. This was until I read the blurb then went on to read the first page. I felt so connected and hooked that I couldn't put the book down. I completed the book within 24 hours of starting to read it.
So the book is about a young Jewish man, moving away from his home in Slovakia for 'work' and being transported to one of the most horrible places on Earth at that time, a concentration camp in Poland called 'Auschwitz II - Birkenau' under the control of the Nazi Germans. From living here he falls in love with a girl whilst going about doing his job, tattooing numbers onto fellow inmates arms. The rest is to be revealed upon reading.
