The cover of the book really grabbed my attention. The dashes of blue, the unity of hands held together. It is beautifully done.

The story itself was truly haunting. I cried my way through this book. A tale of two people who found love under unfortunate circumstances. Lale Sokolov and Gita found themselves at Auschwitz, a place nobody should ever have had to endure. Seperately they both (aswell as many many others) witnessed terrible crimes, deaths and heart wrenching brutality. They were a pair of few survivors who lived to tell their stories and try to make a life for themselves afterwards.

I am really struggling to put into words how well written this book is for such a wretched and sensitive part of history, it is educating for people who may not know much about the concentration camps and the horrors that went on inside, it is moving to read just how much love can conquer evil and be an influence to survive what was hell on earth.
