The journey of Lale and Gita will no doubt make you cry. We begin by learning about Lale’s occupation at the camp he is in and immediately you can recognise his warmth and sincerity- this is something that carries on through the book. As he is entrusted with the job of being the tattooist of aushwitz he does not let that deter his moral compass and does everything he possibly could to help others in the concentration camp whether that may be offering kinds words of advice or managing to smuggle a few scraps of food he does it even though it is a huge risk to himself. This historical account is a reminder of the horrors of the Holocaust and the pain and suffering millions and millions of people had to go through. It is a must read. The photos which are shown at the end of the book are sincerely moving as we are able to put a face to the name and see the joy the two achieved after such horrible struggle it is unimaginable.
