I received this book as a gift. I probably wouldnt have chosen it for myself but im glad I read it because it was a really good read. The book is really touching especially as it is based on a real auschwitz survivor. I liked that at the end of the story there is an account of how the author met Lale and discovered his story. The shocking horror of what happened is not played down and some bits are difficult to read but the love story is beautifully told. Lale is a likeable chatacter from the start and the story shows how his way with people keeps him alive against all the odds. Because the characters are likeable and you get to learn what their life was like before they were captured it really brings home that all the victims were just regular people going about their lives.
