Since reading 'The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas' I have been on the lookout for another true life account of a Holocaust victim. The Tattooist of Auschwitz's declaration on the cover drew me to read this preview, as it says that it is based on the true life of Lale Solokov. The first chapters shocked me, to the extent that I had to put it down for a while, as the authors detailed description of Lale's journey to Auschwitz felt too real. I truly felt as if I was in the cattle cart with him.

I appreciated the respect that the author gave Lale and his story. Whilst she does descriptively narrate the true conditions and events that took place at Auschwitz, she does so in a detailed but unghastly fashion.
