A historical novel based on a true holocaust story of the characters Lale Sokolov and Gita, who meet at Auschwitz as prisoners. Lale is a Jewish tattooist who tattoos new prisoners with their identification numbers. This story was very interesting and emotional, and gave a good insight into the holocaust. It highlights the glimmer of hope and courage amidst horror,
especially with the love story between Lale and Gita. The characters really bought the story to life, and this book (although tragic), was a safer read compared to other holocaust-based novels.
This book was definitely an unforgettable page-turner for me and the author did a great job at sharing Lale's life story. I highly recommend.
