Maybe I'm being harsh but it wasn't as amazing as I thought it would be. From the hype that had surrounded this book I had expected it to be utterly life-changing and honestly, I was just disappointed. It was still a good book, a 3/5 isn't bad in my eyes! But I just think I was expecting more.

I have visited Auschwitz. I have stood in the places Lale and Gita's story happened. In some ways it made the story slightly more emotional, but in other ways it made me almost question the story more? I know it's based on true story but how much of that true story was embellished?

Also I know this is a strange point but the writing style was weird. It didn't feel like a novel almost? It was very simplistic and I just didn't like it.

I would recommend The Tattooist of Auschwitz as an introduction to Holocaust accounts as names of things (kappos, sonderkommando, Canadas) were explained which you don't usually get. However, I do think there are better books out there.
