I don't generally go for war related fiction, but I had been recommended this book and I have to say, it didn't disappoint at all.

Straight away I was in awe of Lale's optimism. It was joked that he was a cat with 9 lives in the book and his journey very much suggested that! I read the book during Covid 19 Lockdown 2020 and it really put things into perspective and made me appreciate what I had! The fact it was based on a true story really gripped my emotions. I couldn't imagine being in the shoes of either Lale or his heartthrob Gita. So many times through the story I thought they would part and never see eachother again. I was really pleasantly surprised by the ending because of this. The icing on the very emotional cake was the photos that the author had added at the end, along with notes about how she came to hear the story! I was very close to tears a few times, both happy and sad!
