The Tattooist of Auschwitz is a harrowing true story, but is just written so well that's it unputdownable. It is a book that I will recommend everyone reads at some point in their life, it's so unforgettable and I will never forget the stories included in this story. It's because of this book that I now have a huge interest in historical fiction.

It follows the true story of Lale Sokolov, a Slovakian Jew, who is transported to the concentration camps at Auschwitz-Birkeanu. When it's discovered that he is able to speak several languages he is put to work as a Tatowierer (tasked with permanently marking his fellow prisoners). He meets all new inmates, trying his very best to comfort them amongst the horror and one day he meets Gita.

Lale & Gita find love for each other but have such a rough journey of trying to survive camp so that they can one day get married.

Chilling and disturbing, it is beautifully written and shows the strength and courage of those captive who are holding onto hope.

The end of the book, which looks at their life after Auschwitz, I think is so important and a great addition along with the story of how Heather Morris was able to put this book together.

Highly recommend and I can't wait for Cilkas Journey!
