Any book set in the holocaust is going to be heartbreaking, but remembering that this is a true story of the main character adds a whole new level of pain.

The writing style is simplistic but it works due to the tragic setting. You find yourself rooting for the main character and the relationship he forms in the camp. You are constantly willing him to survive. I'd say the reason it's not a 5 star book is because I felt some of the main character's musings on women aren't totally necessary. They aren't negative in any way, but I feel like it was over done. You can tell the author is definitely trying to portray his love of women and his respect for them but it just seems out of place sometimes. On the other hand, it's hard to judge because the author is taking the story directly from the man himself.

Overall, I loved this book. I will definitely be reading it again. Heather Morris does a superb job of portraying the brutality of the world they were living in and I challenge anyone not to be completely and utterly moved by it.
