I really, really wanted to love this book, and it was really good, but for me it was lacking something.
The story charts Lale and Gina's relationship after they meet in Auschwitz-Birkenau. As the book title suggests, Lale is the tattooist in charge of marking new people when they arrive at the camps, where he meets and falls in love with Gina. Through his position as the tattooist, he is able to put himself at risk in order to support her and the other prisoners.
This is a highly emotional read that tells a heartbreaking story of World War Two and is beautifully written. It's a true story which makes it hard to critisise, but for me it was lacking something at the ending, it almost seemed too clean?
