When I was first recommended this book I didn't really think it was going to affect me the way it did, as I usually tend to pick up these types of stories and I didn't think that it would be any different. This story gave me an insight into not only the horrors of Auschwitz but the love that was formed in those hardships. Both of our protagonists are very likable and admirable. Ludvic 'Lale' Sokolov is a hardworking survivalist that has been given a job as a tattooist in the concentration camp 'Auschwitz'. He meets Gita as she's waiting in line to be given the tattoo, from then he does anything he can to make sure that she makes it out alive. We can see straight away that Lale is a very sincere and generous man from the first interaction we have with him. He is willing to give everything away and risk his life to help others. This story is truly a story of hope and courage that everyone should read as it will put their life into perspective. This story makes sure that the memory of Lale Sokolov stays alive.
