Since only hearing the best about this “international bestseller” I decided I needed to read it. It truly does live up to its reputation.
I found the first chapter to not be a true representation of the overall book, I’m not sure why but to me it just missed the mark of what I was expecting. Yet I am so thankful I continued reading. The story of Lale and Gita is written so compellingly, so personally, you cannot help but to hope for a love like theirs, something tough enough to withstand the horrors they went through.
The book is written so eloquently, it makes a difficult subject easier to read. The images at the end brought me to tears, a reminder that it wasn’t just a story: it was a life too.
