This story was so heartbreaking, I really had so much trouble finishing it, to be a tattooist is supposed to be a fun position to be in isn't it?? Well not in the case of this poor soul. Forced to tattoo all the poor, hunted people in the Auschwitz concentration camp, he's unable to sleep, he smells burning flesh, he hears those shot as they dare to flee, hit the ground as they are killed. But even worse for him is having to tattoo the woman he loves, feeling he has damned her to a life of heartache and misery in the hellhole that was Auschwitz. With little food or sleep, being worked until they drop or die, and being shot whilst going to the hole in the ground toilet purely because the guards are bored and sadistic, this is one horrifying story I'll never be able to forget, even with the better ending, this is still someone's true life story and it's the most horrific thing I've ever read, wouldn't recommend this for light hearted people, an amazing read though, I cannot deny that.
