This book is one of my all time favourites, one that i regularly re-read and every single time it breaks my heart.
I have always believed that the heart breaking evil of Auschwitz should be something everyone should understand to prevent that kind of mass loss on an unbelievable scale in the future. The horrors from within the camp are captured carefully in Lale's story, one may i add that is entirely based on truth. This book offers a glimpse into the extraordinary lives of Lale & Gita, it is a story tainted with bravery, sacrifice and love against the odds. This story is important in highlighting that even in the most lifeless, cruel and barren settings, love always comes out on top, and can be the one thing that helps you cling to faith in humanity and survival.
This book is beautifully written, it is not a tale of sorrow, rather a tale of survival and one incredible man who was willing to battle the darkness for the one he loved. Would 100% reccomend.
