This is an absolutely harrowing tale of Lale, a Slovakian Jew who is taken to a concentration camp during World War Two. It is quickly discovered that Lale speaks many languages, so he is signed up to be the Tätowierer (tattooist) in the concentration camp. This gives him certain privileges and he uses them as fully as he can to help those around him.
As I have said, this story is harrowing and bold. Made all the more compelling because it is real. It is a story that has really stuck with me - even though I read this years ago.
Lale is an incredible man who was doing the best in a horrific situation - he falls in love in this awful situation and looks out for his lady always.
