This was a particularly harrowing read, yet incredibly moving. It shared the harsh realities of the war with the beauty of what makes us human.

The storyline is at times hard to swallow, and at others impossible to give up on. I found it most compelling and couldn't let the story or characters go, even long after I closed the book.

This is not my usual type of read, and despite feeling gripped by the book, I'm not sure I'd be reaching for this kind of thing again. It was very real, and brought the horrors of history to my living room, which was a very difficult concept and sensation at times.

That said, I would recommend this and defy anyone to read it without a heavy feeling in their heart.
