I had high hopes for this book but I found it very average. It is definitely not the best holocaust book I have read of this type. I think the author has done a lack of research and the book it written quite simplistically, after the first couple of chapters I was convinced that this was a young adult book. A lot of the stories within the main story I felt need to be taken with a pinch of salt. Having said all this, the book was well received within by book club and most seem to enjoy the story. It also opened up good discussions on the holocaust and our thoughts on the prisoners who had jobs or special privileges within the camps. It also does make you reflect on the harrowing events that they had to live through.

I will still pick up the authors next book.
