Wow! This book blew me away. The story of Lale, who arrives in Auschwitz in April 1942 and becomes the tattooist responsible for inking new arrivals. He falls in love with Gita when he is told to re-ink her number. Lale uses his position which allows his to move around the camp fairly freely, to acquire extra food and other items which he shares with the other inmates. His story is both shocking and heart-breaking. We're all aware of the terrible things that happened in Auschwitz and the atrocities carried out by the Nazis and it is lovely that hope sprang there in the form of Lale and Gitas' love story.
The book is well written and easy to read which meant I had read it quite quickly. It is a book that will stay with me.
