This book is based on the true story of Lale Sokolov, a Slovakian who falls in love in a German concentration camp. He is made to tattoo numbers on all who enter many of whom he knows will never leave. This is his story of his time there, his love for Gita and his eventual escape.
Wow this is such a powerful and moving read. It instantly draws you in and I followed his story praying for a happy ending. It's quite a hard read emotionally at times but so very worth it.
Lale is quite the character and his strength in the horrors he faces is incredible. He's so likeable and caring. I love how he and Gita met in such a horrific situation and yet they fell in love.
