I wouldn't normally read books about the Holocaust and concentration camps, mainly because it's so difficult to read about. When you learn about it you don't hear many individual stories which in some ways makes it easier to hear about. I guess you can disconnect from it. When you read something based on a true story though it's a much more difficult read.

I found The Tattooist of Auschwitz to be a well written and compelling account of a survivors time at a terrible place. I'm not sure exactly how much is true and how much is 'based on a true story' as it's hard to believe he got away with some things there! I really enjoyed the story though, it was so interesting to hear another account of what happened there and the love story between him and Gita was heartwarming.
