I like the mysteriousness of the cover, as well as the link to nature - given the level of description given by the author, this seems - from what I've read - to be a good fit for the contents of the book.
I enjoyed immersing myself in the environment created by the author, as well as finding occasional things I could relate to as a 90s child (the walkman, for example). I also found the religious concept intriguing - I am not Catholic, but know a small amount about Catholic boarding schools, and so getting to read more about that, with the descriptions given by the author, was interesting.
I admit to being a little confused as to quite what is going on, but I would imagine that to be the point - why make things easy and potentially lose readers? I am hooked and want to read on!!
