A Catholic girls school, enchanting art teacher and the mysterious case of his disappearance alongside a pupil. It's got all the ingredients for a decent thriller but I can't say that it was an exciting read that drew me in.
Louisa is a scholarship girl and so an instant outsider from the start, amongst the daughters of the rich. Except that Victoria takes an interest - a little rich girl who seems to be trying too hard to rebel. Louisa is fascinated by her (you could say infatuated) though it's hard to say why as she comes across as quite unlikeable.
Meanwhile, Mr Lavelle, the art teacher is the only young male teacher and therefore object of affection for most of the girls. Again though it's hard to see why as he comes across as a bit of an idiot - teenage interest in the untouchable I suppose.
When he and Louisa disappear it becomes a mystery that never solved - until 25 years later when The Journalist covers the case .
The problem is that the ending is not especially surprising and you're left wondering how on earth the Police couldn't solve the mystery at the time...…….
It was an entertaining enough read for a couple of days but I can say that I would recommend it as it just felt a bit obvious.
