3.5 stars. Temple House is a girls boarding school set on a cliff high above the sea and one of this books greatest pleasures is the imagery used. The scenes are so well described, the characters thought out, that you are drawn in to their world: a world of teen angst, strict religion and an undercurrent something unknown.

The story is told from the viewpoint of three different women each with their own insights in to what happened. Although this story keeps you guessing until the end it isn't thrilling and I feel the author could have upped the suspense to keep you wanting "just another chapter ". There are hints to something more sinister underneath the obvious story being told but this isn't developed which is a bit disappointing.

A good debut novel with a wonderful sense of place, but a missed opportunity to really grip the reader.
