A great start, promising lots of intrigue, atmosphere and diversion. After about a third of the way through I felt the story was lagging a bit. There was a fair bit of repetition, and going around and back on itself. The narrative is from a few key characters, in the past and present, so keeping track of everyone was a little tiresome. I liked the style of writing but it lacked depth and it wasn't until the final third where there were a few twists and turns, that I managed to keep interest to the end. Quite a good ending, but took a while to get there. The setting is good and it's quite evocative, however I felt there wasn't enough to really engage me with any of the characters, to 'feel' them.
