I want to be honest but I also want to be fair. I think that if you like a gothic, 'artsy' love story which is a bit unusual and off the beaten track, then this book is definitely for you! In my case, there were certain times in the beginning where I contemplated abandoning the book but I stuck with it and am glad that I did. It definitely got better as it went along and managed to hold my attention until the end but it definitely won't be a contender for my favourite book of 2020. This could just be a matter of taste though because the book is well written, the characters are explored from quite an interesting angle and you can tell the author has put a lot of effort into it. One tip which isn't a spoiler: the prologue will make more sense if you re-read it after finishing the book!
